1. Four Indian-Americans were honoured with the prestigious Great Immigrants, The Pride of America award 2015. They are chosen among 38 people from more than 30 countries around the world received the same award which is given by New York-based Carnegie Corporation on the occasion of Independence Day of United States today (4th July).
These 4 Indians are Preet Bharara, US Attorney, Southern District of New York; Rakesh Khurana, Dean of Harvard College and Marvin Bower Professor of Leadership and Development; Madhulika Sikka, Vice President and Executive Editor of .Mic and Abraham Verghese, Physician, Professor and Author.
2. Solar Impulse, the airplane which is powered only by the sun, has landed in Hawaii after completing a historic 7,200km flight across the Pacific Ocean from Japan. The distance covered and the time spent in the air which is 118 hours are records for manned, solar-powered flight.
3. Sir Fazle Hasan Abed was selected for the 2015 World Food Prize, as per the announcement made by the World Food Prize Foundation this week. He was selected for the prestigious award for his contributions towards reducing hunger in Bangladesh and 10 other countries through his organization BRAC.
He established BRAC, formerly known as the Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee, in 1972 as a relief operation to help the country recover from its war of independence with Pakistan and the destruction wrought by a tropical cyclone. At present, BRAC is the largest non-governmental organization in the world employing over 150000 employees.
