CURRENT AFFAIRS INDIA - 5 JULY 2015

1. Commodore C D Balaji (Retd) took charge as the Director of the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and Programme Director of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) yesterday.
He succeeded P S Subramanyam, who superannuated on 30th June. Before this appointment, he was Project Director of the LCA's naval version.
ADA is the premier multi-agency body based in Bengaluru spearheading the development of combat aircraft for the Air Force and the Navy- among them is the LCA and the proposed Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft AMCA.


2. Former Chief Justice of India Y K Sabharwal passed away yesterday evening. He was 73. Justice Sabharwal held the post as CJI from 1st November 2005 to 13th January 2007.

During his role as CJI, he delivered some important judgments including the verdict in January 2006 that held the dissolution of Bihar Assembly as illegal and unconstitutional.


3. Indian Women's Hockey team defeated Japan by 1-0 to achieve fifth place in the World League semi-final held at Antwerp, Belgium today. This win has increased its chances to qualify for next year's Rio Olympics. If it happens, then Indian team will play in their first Olympic after 36 years.

In the men's Hockey World League, World champions Australia will play against hosts Belgium in the final match to be held at Antwerp on Sunday. India's Men team has already ensured its qualification with their Asian Games gold medal in Incheon.
