DIGILOCKER : A DIGITAL INDIA INITIATIVE

Imagine while applying for a job you don’t have to give attested photocopies of your certificates to your new employer, but just a link on the internet where your certificates are stored. This may sound to be a futuristic concept, but the idea for the digital locker is afloat and a beta version has already been implemented.

The key issues that will be resolved by the digital locker is that it will reduce administrative overheads as the government agencies no longer need to store documents in physical form. The citizens do not need to submit multiple physical copies of the documents and there will be lesser challenges in verifying the authenticity of the documents.

The digital locker is an online repository where a user can store and share his certificates issued by private and government agencies. The department of electronics and information technology (DeitY), has launched the beta version of a digital locker where such documents can be stored. Currently the individuals are given about 10 MB of space which is expected to increase till 1 GB. The storage space will be provided on cloud hosted by National Informatics Centre and the software is being developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC). The key purpose of the digital locker is to minimize the resubmission of physical documents and provide a framework where authenticated certificates can reside thereby minimizing fraud.

The documents can be self attested by the individuals using digital signatures, and even government agencies can store their documents on this network. The beta version of the digital locker is currently hosted at www.digitallocker.gov.in which in a way is a cloud- based file sharing service. Citizens will be able to access their digital lockers using their Aadhaar number and mobile number. Citizens can store certificates like degrees, PAN Card, Aadhaar, BPL certificate, passport etc.

In order to use the beta version of the digital locker a user has to create an account using his Aadhaar / UID number. The user has to share his mobile number through which a One Time Password (OTP) is sent which in-turn will give access to the digital locker. Once signed in the Digital Locker captures the user profile details from the Aadhaar database.

Once a user uploads his documents in the electronic format, he will be able to share the same online with a registered agency / department of government. One can also see the list of agencies issuing e-documents and also those which have accessed one’s documents.

A user can upload files up to 1 MB in PDF, JPG, JPEG, PNG, BMP and GIF formats from the local machine to the digital locker. The government is currently seeking input on the beta version of a digital locker through the http://digitallocker.gov.in/.

BANKING AWARENESS :: TYPES OF BANK ACCOUNTS

There are very frequent questions from this part asked in many exams earlier. Just have an overview and read it with a light mind.

Types of Bank Accounts:
A bank account can be a time deposit account or a term deposit account or a no frill account ie BSBDA .

TYPES OF BANK ACCOUNTS :
a. Savings Bank Account
b. Current Deposit Account
c. Fixed Deposit Account
d. Recurring Deposit Account.
e. No-Frill Account

a. Savings Bank Account
This type of account can be opened with a minimum initial deposit that varies from bank to bank. Money can be deposited any time in this account. Withdrawals can be made either by signing a withdrawal form or by issuing a cheque or by using ATM card. Normally banks put some restriction on the number of withdrawal from this account. Interest is allowed on the balance of deposit in the account. The rate of interest on savings bank account varies from bank to bank and also changes from time to time. A minimum balance has to be maintained in the account as prescribed by the bank. Interest rate is paid to the account holders on daily balance basis.

b. Current Deposit Account
Big businessmen, companies and institutions such as schools, colleges, and hospitals have to make payment through their bank accounts. Since there are restrictions on number of withdrawals from savings bank account, that type of account is not suitable for them. They need to have an account from which withdrawal can be made any number of times. Banks open current account for them. On this deposit bank does not pay any interest on the balances. Rather the account holder pays certain amount each year as operational charge. For the convenience of the account holders banks also allow withdrawal of amounts in excess of the balance of deposit. This facility is known as overdraft facility.

c. Fixed Deposit Account (also known as Term Deposit Account)
Many a time people want to save money for long period. If money is deposited in savings bank account, banks allow a lower rate of interest. Therefore, money is deposited in a fixed deposit account to earn interest at a higher rate.

d. Recurring Deposit Account
This type of account is suitable for those who can save regularly and expect to earn a fair return on the deposits over a period of time. While opening the account a person has to agree to deposit a fixed amount once in a month for a certain period. The total deposit along with the interest therein is payable on maturity. However, the depositor can also be allowed to close the account before its maturity and get back the money along with the interest till that period. The rate of interest allowed on the deposits is higher than that on a savings bank deposit but lower than the rate allowed on a fixed deposit for the same period.

e. No Frill Account, ie BSBDA
The Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account allows you to bank with a zero minimum balance requirement. All the existing ‘Nofrills’ accounts opened by the banks are now converted into BSBDA in compliance with the guidelines issued on August 22, 2012 by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). BSBDA guidelines are applicable to “all scheduled commercial banks in India, including foreign banks having branches in India”. No charge will be levied for nonoperation/activation of inoperative ‘Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account’.

Notes:
a) Minimum age to open a bank account is now 10 years.
b) Maximum Interest rate is given on FD A/c.
c) The maximum period of an FD is 10 years & for RD is 5 years.

Dear readers, here we are presenting you a few writing tips and format of Business Letter Writing , which will be important for upcoming SBI PO exam.

A business letter, as the name suggests, is a letter which has a formal tone and is used for business purposes. Apart from this, business letters are also written for conveying messages to people who we do not know personally. This makes the business letter different from the usual casual or informal letter.

Business Letter Writing Tips:
It will be a good idea to gather some crucial information on the things that you have to keep in mind while writing a business letter. Here, you will find some important tips for the same.

Recipient's name and address: After you have written the date, you have to mention the recipient's name and full address. This should come 4-6 lines after the date.

Salutation: Once you are done with the address of the recipient, you have to begin the letter with a salutation. The salutation should have a greeting word or phrase followed by a personal title - Mr./Ms. - and the full name of the person. Some of the letter salutations that you can use for business letters include Dear (full name), Dear Sir/Madam, etc. If you do not know the name of the recipient, it would be best to begin with To Whomsoever It May Concern.

Subject: After the salutation comes the subject line where you have to mention the purpose of the letter in short. Make sure that the subject line is in upper-case characters and is aligned either to the left or to the center.

Body: The body of the letter can have 2-3 paragraphs. In the introduction, talk about the reason for writing the letter and in the following paragraphs, you can give the necessary details. It is important to maintain double-line spaces between paragraphs when you are writing a business letter.

Complimentary closing: Once you finish writing the letter, you have to end it with a complimentary closing. Some of the closings include Respectfully Yours, Sincerely, etc. Leave four blank spaces after the complimentary closing and then, write your full name. The blank space should be used to sign your name.

Enclosure: If you have enclosed some document with your letter, it is important for you to mention it just below your name. Leave two spaces and write 'Enclosure' or 'Enclosures' below it. If you have attached more than one enclosure, do not forget to mention the correct number in brackets.
